Creating Secured PDF Files in TBS

TBS can create pdf files in many different ways but by default, pdf files are created as unsecured documents which anyone can copy images and text from and, with the right applications, edit.

If you wish to secure your pdf files created by TBS so that users cannot copy or edit the data contained in them, this can now be done very simply.

Go to Administration -> Refs and look for the Group of Security settings :

The entry labelled 'Print Secure PDFs' can be set as No (the defaulted state) whereby pdf files created from your installation will not be secured, or set to Yes when pdf files created by your installation will be secured.

When a pdf file is secured, it contains an owners password. To an end user opening a secured pdf file, if they wish to copy any of the contents of the pdf file, or, if they have the appropriate tools, to edit the contents of the pdf file, they will be asked to provide the owners password in order to be able to continue. This then gives you the option of giving out the password if the situation requires it.

If you wish to change the owner password that is set on a secured pdf file, you can change the Refs entry labelled 'PDF Owner Password' - note : this is only used if you are creating secured pdf files. The Owner password is set by default to 'tbspassword'

Note : it is typically an administrator function to be allowed access to the Refs entries within Administration - if you do not see the Refs option in the Administration section of the navigation tree you should ask your system administrator (or contact TBS) to assist.
